Class Description

Description

Discover the ancient art of natural dyeing in this hands-on workshop where we’ll explore the magical interaction between oak galls and iron. Oak galls, rich in tannins, have been used for centuries to create deep, lasting colors. When combined with iron, they reveal a striking range of grays and blacks—shades that are both earthy and timeless.

In this class, we will cover the fundamentals of natural dyeing, from preparing fibers and mixing mordants to safely working with iron, and you’ll gain practical knowledge to continue dyeing at home. Each participant will dye a cotton market bag and a silk scarf, showcasing the unique tonal variations possible on different types of fibers.

This workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike who are curious about sustainable, traditional dyeing techniques. Join us for a day of experimentation, creativity, and natural color alchemy.
