Description

This course will help the advanced artist to find their flow. We will work from observation - the beautiful graceful figures of the warriors and gods will be offered to you as inspiration. This subject - antique sculpture - is a theme typically reserved for academic realistic rendering. But in order to break the mold, we’ll let go of every expectation. Paint will be runny, with drips running all over the canvas, and color-mixtures random and imperfect. You will be working on a massive size canvas - as large as your wall allows. The most surprising will be the tool that you will be painting with - the sponge roller, dipped in latex house paint.

Why sponge rollers? Why not brushes?

Exactly because sponge rollers are not used for painting antique sculpture. Artists will have to abandon all their painting habits, and come in with the wide-open mind - to try something they have never done before. When you have to paint like this, when your internal controller has to shut off, you discover what paradise feels like.

For intermediate and advanced students.
