Class Description

Description

Develop expertise in inclusive leadership methods that advance justice, foster a sense of belonging, and cultivate respect throughout government organizations.

This comprehensive course examines why external partners matter significantly to organizational effectiveness. These stakeholders encompass state agencies, municipal and federal authorities, contract partners, supply chain vendors, and the broader community they serve. Participants will acquire capabilities to evaluate stakeholder significance, construct robust cross-organizational alliances and cooperative relationships, and gauge the implications of stakeholder and community communication strategies.

Suitable Participants:

This course is suited for government staff who have held supervisory responsibilities for a minimum of five years. These roles involve directing team members and maintaining awareness of organizational strategy and long-term direction.

What You'll Gain:

  • Evaluate why external stakeholders (state agencies, municipal and national bodies, contract firms, supply partners, and the public) prove critical to organizational functioning.
  • Build effective cross-organizational connections and joint initiatives.
  • Assess how stakeholder engagement and community outreach shape organizational results.

Program Outline:

Module 1: Evaluating External Stakeholder Importance in Government Organizations

  • Characterize stakeholders from outside the organization and determine participation intensity (active contributor, impacted party, interested observer, decision-maker) and partnership value (pp. 6,7).
  • Chart, evaluate the importance of, and schedule interaction with external partners using analytical frameworks (Power; Interest Matrix on page 12) and partner summary documents (pages 9, 10, 13, 16).
  • Evaluate what external partners need through targeted investigation and assessment for government bodies, end beneficiaries, and contract providers; link findings to key objectives (pages 11, 12).
  • Strengthen how you exchange information; demonstrate genuine understanding, communicate clearly and concisely, solicit input, and pick appropriate communication approaches to maintain stakeholder satisfaction and awareness (pages 12, 13, 14).

Module 2: Creating Strong Cross-Organizational Partnerships and Cooperative Working Relationships

  • Clarify how "accomplishment occurs via collaboration"; apply evaluation questions for government collaboration (intended goals, service recipients, key milestones, cooperative resource sharing) (pages 17, 18).
  • Compare informal alliances, public-private collaborations (P3), and expanded public-private-people collaborations (P4); measure advantages and disadvantages, and examine best partnership approaches (pages 18, 19, 20).
  • Generate written agreements and partnership documents; incorporate purpose, responsibilities, duration, protected information, potential problems, and authorization with legal and ethical planning (pages 21, 22, 23).
  • Strengthen partnerships and evaluate achievements; observe potential problems (such as duplicated effort, ambiguous responsibilities) and employ evaluation approaches and collaborative administration to strengthen outcomes (pages 24, 25, 26).

Module 3: The Significance of Public Engagement and Customer Communication

  • Practice fundamental standards for transparent, principled, and culturally aware communication; customize techniques and delivery methods (meeting in person, digital platforms, online presence, voice calls, brief messages, written correspondence) for diverse audiences (pages 28, 29, 30, 31, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43).
  • Formulate a comprehensive stakeholder communication approach; establish primary intent, determine audience segments, identify best approaches, determine timing, and assign responsibility; develop a customer satisfaction strategy with transparent expectations and input mechanisms (pages 31, 32).
  • Examine the complete citizen journey end-to-end; obtain essential information, highlight feasible improvements, and close gaps between stated commitments and actual performance (pages 32, 33, 34, 35).
  • Determine results through measurable targets and analytical methods, including stakeholder feedback sessions, public dialogue forums, comparison investigations, response committees, and electronic monitoring (pages 37, 38, 39, 40).
